Symfonie Yarns produces exquisite hand-dyed yarns inspired by the lush countryside, palaces and shrines of India

Knitpro is famous around the world for its knitting needles – but did you know that this family-run company, based in the ancient Indian city of Jaipur, also produces Symfonie Yarns? This range of stunning, hand-dyed yarns includes elegant blends of wool, alpaca and silk.

KnitPro International began developing its hand-dyed yarns back in 2019. “The idea for the brand was born from the passion of one of our team members, an avid knitter who deeply admired the artistry of hand-dyed yarns available around the world,” explains Suman Sharma, General Marketing Manager at KnitPro. “At the time, however, such yarns were not easily accessible in larger quantities or at accessible price points. That sparked the vision for Symfonie Yarns.

“The first year was dedicated to extensive trials, experimentation, and building a world-class dyeing facility. Today, the facility provides employment to more than 100 people, including over 30 women from underprivileged backgrounds, combining craftsmanship with meaningful social impact.

“The philosophy behind Symfonie Yarns is rooted in two core values: creating opportunities and creating excellence. We are committed to generating meaningful employment for underprivileged communities while offering knitters premium, luxury-quality yarns that inspire creativity and craftsmanship.”

Elegant blends

Symfonie Yarns currently has six distinct yarn ranges, primarily centred around fine Merino wool and premium Merino blends. The line-up includes Terra, a stunning sock yarn in a palette of more than 70 shades, from tonal semi-solids to exuberant multi-colour combinations.

A useful resource on the Symfonie website is an archive of knitted swatch images for every shade, so you can see how they look when knitted-up.

Luna, which has been used by Chloé Elizabeth Birch for her lovely ‘Malva’ top, is an iridescent blend of Merino and silk, in a palette of 21 gemstone shades.

There are two pure Merino yarns: Viva, a 4ply weight which offers an extraordinary choice of more than 100 colours, including sophisticated tonals, jewel tones and neons; and Bella, a worsted-weight version in a palette of more than 70 shades.

The newest additions to the range are Diva, a laceweight blend of Merino wool and silk offering a soft, draping fabric with a fabulous sheen, and the sportweight Serra, which combines 80% extrafine Merino wool and 20% alpaca to create fabrics that will be warm yet lightweight, dreamily soft and draping.

“To achieve the depth and richness of our colourways, we use a variety of artisanal dyeing techniques, including hand-painting, kettle dyeing, and dip dyeing,” Suman explains. “Each method is carefully chosen to create unique shades and character within every skein.

Nature is our greatest source of inspiration for our colour palettes. From the changing seasons and landscapes to flowers, oceans, forests, and sunsets, the colours and textures found in the natural world strongly influence our palette development.

“Our sock yarn, Terra, continues to be one of our most popular collections and is appreciated not only for sock knitting but also for its versatility across a wide variety of projects,” Suman says. “Knitters especially love Terra’s softness, durability, and beautiful stitch definition, making it ideal for shawls, garments, and everyday accessories. One of my personal favourite colourways in the entire Symfonie line-up is the Dragon Vine colourway in the Terra range.”

Alongside its yarns, Symfonie provides an inspiring selection of knitting patterns available to download on its website, including a large number of free projects. Offering modern silhouettes and elegant design details, these everyday sweaters and stylish accessories will be ideal for showcasing beautiful hand-dyed colourways.

So what’s next for this exciting hand-dyed brand? “Following the recent launch of several new colour additions for 2026, our focus is now on developing exciting new yarn bases and fresh colour palettes for the 2027 season,” says Suman. “We are continually exploring new inspirations, fibre blends, and creative possibilities to bring something unique and inspiring to knitters around the world.”
